She is a reader, a writer, a traveler, a hiker, a certified astrologer, and a South Carolina Barbecue judge. She enjoys yoga and tennis and watching football, especially the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Baltimore Ravens. She likes words and language and can order a beer or a glass of wine in German, French, Italian, Spanish, and English.

She loves the great outdoors and trying new things. She is always up for the next adventure. She has done stand-up comedy and Improv. She has three tattoos, knows how to snowboard, can drive a motorcycle, and has paddled the Okefenokee, Magpie River, and the Futalafu.

She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and earned an M.A. in environmental science and policy from The Johns Hopkins University. She has completed the Racial Equity Institute and Love as a Kind of Cure coursework. If she’s not woke yet, she’s trying to be an ally.

​

She is pet mom to Coco (a.k.a. Cuckoo for Cocopuff), a spoiled and bossy Pomeranian. She is also the mother of two adult daughters who turned out amazing despite their years of inadequate parenting.

​

She is an alumnus of the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, a member of the South Carolina Writers Association, the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, and the United States Tennis Association. She’s on Instagram @cmcothranwriter.

She spent most of her career in marketing and fundraising for environmental non-profit organizations. In this capacity, she became used to being underpaid, which was excellent preparation for becoming a writer.
